Once again Mexico is among the "50 Best Restaurants in the World"

The long-awaited list of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World 2018 edition was announced on October 30 at a ceremony where culinary intellectuals from the five continents gathered in the Spanish city of Bilbao for the awards ceremony.

More than just a list, it is a celebration of the diversity of cuisines, which is also explored through conferences and live culinary demonstrations, as well as events that focus on the gastronomic strengths of a particular region, to find out which will be the best restaurants in Asia and Latin America. With a social media following of more than 1 million food lovers, the brand is also positioned globally through its digital channels.

Since 2002, the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” has reflected the world’s culinary diversity thanks to its panel of more than 1,000 culinary experts, as well as its structured voting procedure; the annual list of the world’s best restaurants offers a clear example of the best destinations for a unique culinary experience, as well as being a barometer for global gastronomic trends.

As Gastronomic Tourism began to rise in popularity, the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” gained recognition and legitimacy as a compass for gourmets in their early days, uncovering upcoming chefs, culinary trends, and showcasing the subtlety and complexity of various cuisines around the world.

Who represents Mexico?

Chef Enrique Olvera opened Pujol (13th on the list) in Mexico City in 2000. His cuisine is always transforming; he adds ideas from all over, reinterprets and evolves, but is rooted in timeless Mexican ingredients and techniques.

Led by the duo Jorge Vallejo in the kitchen and Alejandra Flores in the dining room, Quintonil (11th place on the list) offers us a proposal that clearly expresses the flavors and techniques of contemporary Mexican cuisine, from the platform of a restaurant that perfectly integrates the dynamics of contemporary Mexican cuisine and service, as well as a contemporary vision of national gastronomy and sustainability criteria. The work of this duo has led them to receive important recognition; entering the aforementioned list of the “50 Best Restaurants in the World.”

In the opinion of the Expert

Mexican Valentina Ortiz, also a judge at the event, highlights that there is good representation on the list, which is compiled by a jury of more than 250 industry experts: "The judges are people who travel and eat in Latin America and there is no pre-filter of restaurants. Like any other ranking, it has its fans and its detractors; everyone would like to see greater representation." In Mexico, we are lucky to have restaurants of all kinds, with long tablecloths, but also much smaller or traditional ones, which are also part of this list.

We invite you to stay in Kali Escandón because we have the representative Pujol and Quintonil (Polanco area) close to us. MEXICO IS WAITING FOR YOU, MAKE YOURSELF COMFORTABLE.
